🏁 Edenbridge Pinewood Derby Race - 26th Sept 2026

The Pinewood Derby is a simple and fun day of high-speed thrills, creativity, and friendly competition at the Edenbridge Scout Hut on the High Street.

Unleash your imagination and join the Pinewood Derby fun! Start your adventure by building a car from a block of wood—choose between a classic rectangular shape or let us cut it into a sleek wedge for you. Hundreds of design ideas are available online, or dream up your own unique creation. As long as your car meets the competition criteria, the possibilities are endless—be bold, be original, and let your creativity shine.

There’s more than just racing! Not only will we crown the overall race champion, but there’s also a special prize for the best-designed car. Check out our photo gallery and video clips from last year for inspiration.

Kits are available to purchase online here, or you can pick one up at the Edenbridge Motor Show on Sunday, 8th September. We’ll even have a sample track so you can see the action up close before race day!

This is your chance to get into the racing spirit and showcase your amazing creativity in a fun, friendly, and slightly unconventional competition. Don’t forget: there will be a tuck shop and drinks available on the day. Plus, don't forget to pre-book your bacon rolls with your kit—perfect for fuelling your creativity!

How the racing works

Scalextric without electrics!!

Your creation will be entered into the race event with at least six races with a chance to become the ECCA Pinewood Champion 20. The cars will race down a wooden track, without any form of propulsion.

Purchase your Pinewood Car Kit for £12.50 and let your imagination take the wheel. From sleek racers to wild creations — anything goes, as long as it rolls and meets the official Derby rules and requirements, available with your kit and at the bottom of this page.

ORDER OF PLAY

🚗 Action starts with registration at 10am sharp, with races and fun from 10:30 continuing until around 1pm.

We will collect details of who you want to race during the morning, each person will get about 2 minutes of track time.

Pinewoood car kits are limited — we can only accommodate 36 cars so grab your kit and join the race!

Bacon rolls will be available however you must pre-book and purchase your bacon roll - cost £3.50. Tea, coffee, and soft drinks, will be available throughout the day — perfect for refuelling between races.

Pinewood Derby Rules 2026

Only kits provided by ECCA shall be eligible to race.
Completed cars shall not exceed 7 inches (178mm) in length.
Completed cars shall not exceed 3 inches (77mm) in width
Completed cars shall not exceed 4 inches (102mm) in height
Completed cars shall not exceed 9 ounces (255 grams) in weight.

Wheels :

Only the supplied wheels and axles may be used.
NO LUBRICATION is allowed
Minimum distance between wheels is 1 ¾ inches(43mm)
Clearance under car is ½ inch (13mm)

Details:

You can add details such as driver, steering wheel etc BUT they must be firmly fixed to the car.
Weights can be added, but they must meet the above requirements.

Inspection

Each car will be inspected and weighed at driver registration. Failure to meet the above requirements will eliminate your car from racing.
Cars will need to be registered on the day of the event.
Registration and inspection will be open from 10 am till 10:25am
Failure to register will mean forfeiting your 1st 3 Races.

The Races

There will be 6 rounds of racing.
Races are drawn at random , each race will have 2 cars.
Cars will be allocated a lane number.
Each car will race 3 Races in each lane.
Cars will start at the stop of the track, they will be lined up behind the start gate.
The Starter Steward will release the cars, there will be no assistance in the form of pushing or other propulsion devices.
The winner will be the car whose nose crosses the finish line.
If a car leaves the track, the race will be re-run. If the same car leaves the track again it will forfeit the race.
The winning car will get 3 points and the runner up will get 1 point.
If it is impossible to determine a winner both cars will get 3 points.
A league table will be running throughout the competition. The car with the most points after 6 Races will be deemed the champion.
If more than 1 is equal top then a series of knockout heats will be used to determine the champion.
The Chief Stewards decision will be final.
